Three artists making images of people in public spaces. Kevin Dean – as unofficial artist in residence of ‘Victorious’ Kevin Dean has produced a series of paintings which capture with immediacy & freshness the milling anonymity of the crowds, dramatic lighting and inevitably weather of the annual music festival. Working in situ in the difficult conditions that go with painting at very crowded public events these works perfectly convey the excitement of a great local event.  Sarah Jeffries – reinvents found media photographic images originating in fashion and lifestyle magazines, witty deconstructs and reconstructs reinterpreting and re-seeing and subverting the glossy media imagery to raise questions about how and why they are used. Michael Bartlett – a large ongoing series of small reportage paintings of people at gallery private views which he creates from photographic images capturing the almost snap-shot process of images imprinting on our memories.

SARAH JEFFRIES - “This collection of work is taken from a wider project called The Glossy Magazine Series, which explores and interrupts the general order of found pages residing within popular women's fashion magazines. The work visually explores the nature of what, artist and theorist, Jo Spence describes as 'ritualistic harmony' within photography, in her 1983 essay - What is a Political Photograph? Where she describes photography to possess a kind of facade, which censors and silences women's true experiences. The work imagines a capitalist strategy of utilising glamorous harmony, and then turns that possible function in on its self by adopting visual tools born from Dada and Surrealism.” For more information about Sarah click here
