An exhibition bringing together work by three artists - each with a unique approach to landscape - including drawing, painting, sculpture and weaving. Philippa Clarke, Ruth Glasheen and Ruth Heaton met at art school and were united by a shared interest in landscape. Their work uses visual language to describe the complexities of place shaped by history, myth, geography and the imprint of human and animal-kind. There will be an opportunity to talk to the artists during an informal Q&A session on Saturday 28th Oct at 11.30-12.30 to hear about why they exhibit together, how the group dynamic works and how it enables them to continue their practice and keep showing in a post art school environment.

In July 2023 Philippa Clarke, Ruth Heaton & Ruth Glasheen developed and curated Underfoot: working and walking the Land for GAGE Gallery, Kelham Island in Sheffield. Working with both figurative and abstract processes across painting, drawing, weaving, and sculpture, each artist explored their own, and others’, relationship to the landscape. Drawing from a range of perspectives they considered individually the presence and experience of humankind on the natural world. Collectively they used the large industrial gallery space to explore the relationship between each others work, and also provide a range of dynamics for the viewer to engage with.
